OPEN DATA AND THE REUSE OF PUBLIC DATA
Introduction
Back in autumn 2011, the Mairie de Toulouse decided to make its public data available in the framework of what is now commonly known as Open Data. It has continued this policy of opening up public data and works by adopting, at the municipal board meeting of 23 June 2017, a resolution establishing the rules governing the reuse of public information and works produced or received by the City of Toulouse’s heritage institutions (archives, libraries, museums, and monuments).
By municipal board resolution No. 20-0006 of 17 December 2020, the Mairie de Toulouse adopted the Open Licence (LO2 – April 2017) for the reuse of its public data.
What can I do with which data ?
Are works, images and texts freely reusable ?
In general, yes – provided that the rules on reuse and copyright are respected, and that the materials are in the public domain.
Freely reusable data from the collections database
You may share, modify, and freely use public information, data and images for any purpose or creative use, provided that you maintain these same conditions for third parties and cite the source as follows :
- Public information (texts, notes, comments, etc.) :
Users must credit the source as follows: “Mairie de Toulouse, Musée des Augustins”. - Works and images :
Users must credit the source and image rights as follows: “Mairie de Toulouse, Musée des Augustins – Author – source and/or photographic credits”.
Works enter the public domain 70 years after the author’s death. - Database :
Users must cite the source of the database as follows: “Mairie de Toulouse, Musée des Augustins”.
Data not available for reuse
The LO2 licence does not apply to data for which the Mairie de Toulouse cannot guarantee the absence of rights under intellectual property law.
Users must seek the necessary permissions directly from authors or their beneficiaries.
Images of works bearing a © symbol or the statement “droits réservés” / “all rights reserved” may not be reused.
Images of works still under copyright, or not yet in the public domain (i.e. where the artist is still living or has been deceased for less than 70 years), and held in the collections of the Musée des Augustins, are provided for illustrative purposes only.
Sharing
Finally, the Musée des Augustins and the Mairie de Toulouse encourage you to inform them of any reuse made of the public data made available, to better understand how these data and contents are being shared and, where appropriate, to engage with you.
